Antelope Island State Park
Antelope Island is just west of the hustle and bustle of the city of Layton. It is connected to the mainland by a causeway. Antelope Island is home to the annual Bison Roundup, the Balloon Stampede, horseback riding, oolitic sand, earred grebes and lots of fun awaiting you and your family.
Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge
The James V. Hansen Wildlife Education Center offers interactive exhibits, a wetland diorama and other displays featuring information on birds and wetlands of the Great Salt Lake ecosystem. A ½-mile accessible walking trail meanders through the wetland habitat just outside the center. The center is located on Forest Street one block west of Interstate 15 (Exit #363). The center hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm weekdays; 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Saturdays; and it is closed on Federal holidays.
Bonneville Salt Flats International Speedway
The famous Bonneville Speedway is located in the western portion of the flats, near Wendover. It is perfectly flat and has a thick crust of salty soil. It looks like a frozen lake bed covered with snow. No vegetation grows in that area.
Coalition to Keep the Lake Great
The Coalition to Keep the Lake Great is a team of organizations and individuals working to protect the Great Salt Lake from damage by commercial interests. The most pressing threat comes in the form of expansions plans by Great Salt Lake Minerals Company.
Delta Waterfowls vision is to secure the future of waterfowl and waterfowl hunting. Their mission is to provide knowledge, leaders and science-based solutions that efficiently conserve waterfowl and secure the future for waterfowl hunting.
Forestry, Fire, and State Lands
The (Utah) Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands is charged by law to manage this resource for multiple use and sustained yield. The 2000 Great Salt Lake Comprehensive Management Plan (CMP) and the 1996 Great Salt Lake Mineral Leasing Plan are considered the governing documents for the management of the sovereign lands and resources.
FRIENDS of Great Salt Lake was founded in 1994. The mission of FRIENDS is to preserve and protect the Great Salt Lake Ecosystem and to increase public awareness and appreciation of the lake through education, research, and advocacy. Every two years, FRIENDS hosts the Great Salt Lake Issues Forum to provide a focused discussion about the Lake for policy makers, researchers, planners, industry and other stakeholders.

The Great Salt Lake Audubon Society’s dedication to protect and enhance the diverse habitats found around the shores of the Great Salt Lake for wild birds, animals and plants, and to maintaining healthy and diverse environments for wildlife and people throughout the state.
Great Salt Lake Basin hydrologic observatory
The Great Salt Lake Basin hydrologic observatory promotes research and collaboration in the Great Salt Lake Basin. The Great Salt Lake Basin provides the opportunity to observe climate and human-induced land-surface changes affecting water availability, water quality, and water use. This website provides information on watersheds, science, data and infrastructure of the Great Salt Lake Basin.
The Bird Festival is a place to share the love of birds with the public. Local birders and experts will be on hand to share their knowledge and optical equipment with the guests. Another mission of the Great Salt Lake Bird Festival is to act as a fundraiser for Great Salt Lake Nature Center at Farmington Bay.
Great Salt Lake Ecosystem Project
The purpose of the Great Salt Lake Ecosystem Program (GSLEP) is to manage and conserve the avian and aquatic communities of Great Salt Lake through monitoring and research.
Great Salt Lake Experience, LLC owned by Captain JR Reynolds will assist you and your group in creating a fantastic event on our 27 ft sail boat. The Forum hosted by FoGSL provides an opportunity for the Great Salt Lake community to engage in constructive dialogue about the Lake, the future of its ecosystem and its resources. The Issues Forum seeks to bring together researchers, government agencies, managers, industry, and environmentalists working on Great Salt Lake and other saline lake systems in the western United States.
Great Salt Lake Institute at Westminster College
The Great Salt Lake Institute (GSLI) at Westminster College conducts research and education opportunities about the Great Salt Lake (GSL). The GSLI promotes partnerships among college and universities, industry, government agencies, and non-profit organizations interested in sustaining GSL as an important resource.
The Great Salt Lake is one of the most asked-about tourist destinations in Utah. A remnant of the massive ancient Lake Bonneville, the lake is now landlocked and its waters are salty. It is the largest lake between the Great Lakes and the Pacific Ocean, and is the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere. Swimming, sailing, and kayaking are wonderful ways to take in the lake and all its beauty.

Great Salt Lake Marina
Home of the world’s saltiest sailors! This website is home to both the Great Salt Lake Marina and Antelope Island State Park Marina and provides you up to date weather, sea temperature, and if you want to call Great Salt Lake home this is where to come for leasing information as well as finding additional information on nearby Tooele, Utah activities.
The Great Salt Lake Yacht Club was originally established on May 10, 1877 with Captain David Lazarus Davis as Commodore and has been sailing strong for 135 years. GSLYC not only advocates racing and cruising, but also advocates education, seminars, sponsers a juniors program and a womens program. They also sponser several social events every year which are open to the public such as the annual Sailfest.

The mission of the Department of Environmental Quality is to safeguard human health and quality of life by protecting and enhancing the environment. This website provides information on the Selenium Project at the Great Salt Lake as well as charts for water quality studies.
The Great Salt Lake Nature Center at Farmington Bay
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) developed an environmental education program at Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area (WMA). The Farmington Bay WMAs mission is to foster curiosity, understanding, and pride in the Great Salt Lake Ecosystem among Utah’s and the global community through world class education and recreation opportunities.
Hikmet Sidney Loe
Hikmet Sidney Loe fell in love with the arid desert lands of Utah and the environs of Great Salt Lake. She is an artist, writer, and teacher whose work draws inspiration from the smaller patterns found in the larger environment and from the changeable nature of land, water, and sky.
The number of bird species using the
reserve area has increased from 50 in 1995 to 250 today, with 120,000
birds using the reserve annually, an increase of over 1,000 percent.
In 2004, the area became an Important Bird Area (IBA) and is now part
of BirdLife International's IBA Program. The purpose of the program is
to identify, monitor and protect a global network of IBAs to conserve
birds and other biodiversity — birds being one of the most vital
indicators of a healthy environment.
The ISSR has become a haven for birds and an important education and
scientific resource as Kennecott employees, birding groups, schools and
university research teams visit the reserve to observe and study.

Jordan River Parkway
Jordan River Parkway will ultimately be a continuous trail running along the Jordan River, from near Utah Lake on the south end to near the Great Salt Lake on the north end. It is designed to allow hiking/walking, jogging, biking roller blading and other activities.
The Legacy Parkway Project (state Road 67) was designed as a 14-mile stretch of four-lane highway to provide an alternate roadway for commuters in Weber and Davis Counties and the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. Construction was completed on the first phase of the Legacy Parkway, from North Salt Lake to Farmington, and opened to traffic on September 13, 2008. Legacy Parkway is the first of its kind in the United States and includes many unique elements:

The Nature Conservancy in Utah
The Nature Conservancy has a strong presence here in Utah. The Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve is a unique system of salt and fresh water marshes, ponds, pools, sloughs and mudflats. The Nature Conservancy’s mission is to work as a unique conservation organization working to save plants, animals, and natural communities not only in Utah, but around the world.
Located in the heart of Ogden, you'll find a 152-acre nature preserve and education center open to the public year-round. Visitors enjoy 1.5 miles of walking trails, picnic areas, tree houses, bird blinds and an exhibit of live birds of prey. Two of Utah's greenest buildings are on site to teach about sustainable structures. A unique gift shop is located in the Visitor Center. The Ogden Nature Center offers a wide variety of classes & workshops for all ages including art, photography, birding, wildlife in Utah, outdoor recreation, conservation, sustainability, summer camps and more.
R & G Horse and Wagon offers exclusive horseback trail rides on historic Antelope Island, a 28,000 acre island in the Great Salt Lake. The island itself was once in private ownership and included a working ranch, the Fielding Garr Ranch. It was subsequently purchased by the state of Utah and is now part of the Utah State Park system.

Save The Salt is a Non Profit Organization focused on preserving the history, legacy and future of the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. University of Utah Department of Meteorology
The Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Utah studies detailed weather observations, chemistry, thermodynamics, and biology of the Great Salt Lake.
U.S. Geological Survey — Great Salt Lake
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has measured the elevation of Great Salt Lake since 1875 and conducted many studies on the hydrology, salinity, water quality, and ecology of the lake. Currently, the USGS operates lake elevation gages at Saltair Marina, Saline (north arm), and on the railroad causeway near Promontory Point. The USGS is studying the ecology of brine shrimp in the lake in cooperation with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and researchers from the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Utah State University.
Utah Paddle Surfing
The mission of the Utah Waterfowl Association (UWA) is to preserve Utah’s waterfowl, waterfowl habitat, and rich waterfowling heritage. To that end, the UWA will work towards providing a voice in the political and regulatory arena to Utah’s more than 24,000 waterfowlers.
The Utah Airboat Association is committed to preserving Utah’s wetlands, assisting with nesting programs and working to improve launch sites and boating access areas for the users of Utah’s marshes. Utah Airboat Association also works with researchers, various state agencies, and conservation groups to improve and enhance the public awareness of the Great Salt Lake and its surrounding wetlands.
Wasatch Front Polar Bear Club
Although swimming in Great Salt Lake throughout the winter may sound too chilly for most, it is not all that uncommon, check out the Wasatch Front Polar Bear Club where the main place to swim is in the GSL because of the ease of just showing up in winter time and swimming in water that is literally at freezing temperature, but not having to cut through any ice. Always check with your doctor prior to participating in any strenuous activity.
Western Resource Advocates
One of Western Resource Advocates’ core priorities is the protection and restoration of Utah’s Great Salt Lake ecosystem. WRA’s Utah staff works in close collaboration with groups such as Friends of Great Salt Lake, the Utah Wetlands Foundation, Great Salt Lake Audubon, National Audubon Society, The Nature Conservancy, and others to minimize these harmful activities and to develop comprehensive strategies that will protect this remarkable natural legacy.
